Terms of Service
Last updated: February 2026
relay-tty is a best-effort service. It's free to use, open source at heart, and built with love. No warranties, no guarantees of uptime, and prices may change as we figure out sustainable pricing. Don't use it for anything illegal. Be cool.
The service
relay-tty provides a hosted terminal relay that lets you access your local terminal sessions from a web browser. We route WebSocket traffic through Cloudflare's edge network. That's it — we're a fancy pipe.
Best effort
This is a best-effort service. We care deeply about reliability and we'll do our best to keep things running, but:
- We don't guarantee uptime, latency, or availability
- The service may have downtime for maintenance or because we broke something
- We're a small team, not an SLA factory
If the service goes down, we'll fix it as fast as we can. That's our commitment.
Free tier
The free tier is genuinely free. We're not going to bait-and-switch you. However:
- Free tier limits (tunnels, viewers) may be adjusted as we learn what's sustainable
- We reserve the right to rate-limit or throttle abusive usage
- Free tier features may change, but we'll give notice
Paid tiers
If and when we offer paid plans:
- Prices may change. We're figuring out what sustainable pricing looks like. We'll give at least 30 days notice before any price increase.
- You can cancel anytime. No lock-in, no cancellation fees.
- Refund requests are handled on a case-by-case basis. We're reasonable humans.
Your responsibilities
When using relay-tty, you agree to:
- Not do anything illegal. We don't monitor your traffic, but don't use our service for unlawful purposes.
- Keep your API keys secure. If a key is compromised, revoke it immediately.
- Not abuse the service. Don't try to break it, DDoS it, or use it in ways that degrade service for others.
- Be cool. We're developers building for developers. Treat the service and community with respect.
Open source
The relay-tty client is open source. This hosted service (relaytty.com) is the commercial offering that pays for infrastructure. You're always free to self-host using the open source tools.
No warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
In plain English: we built this because we think it's useful, and we use it ourselves. But things break, APIs change, and computers are fundamentally unreliable machines held together by abstractions. Use the service at your own risk.
Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR USE.
Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim. If you're on the free tier, that's $0.
Termination
You can stop using the service at any time. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. If we shut down the service entirely, we'll give as much notice as possible.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll post changes here and update the date. For material changes, we'll notify you by email. Continued use after changes means you accept the new terms.
